About Us...

The Smith Point Peninsula Homeowner’s Association will deal strictly with concerns that directly affect the peninsula, including our health, safety, neighborhood beautification, preservation of surrounding waterways, wetlands and recreational facilities. We have already established friendly relationships with local officials, police and fire departments, school board, Fire Island National Seashore, Suffolk County Parks and Brookhaven Town Parks Department.

We recently entered into a stewardship agreement with the Town of Brookhaven Department of Parks to keep Shirley Beach at Smith Landing open during daylight hours in the off-season. We are responsible for opening and closing the gates, and our volunteers have already repaired the gate, replaced the parking barriers along the water’s edge, moved the picnic tables back to their area and are keeping the park clean and litter free! We are also developing a rapport with the neighborhood children and young adults and are beginning to instill in them a sense of ownership and pride in their park.

In recognition of the great history of this area, we intend to work closely with the Manor of St. George to engender knowledge of and pride in its historic significance. It is our intention to work amiably with all other local civic groups where a common interest exists. We plan to sponsor family events, such as “Family Day ” at Shirley Beach, events at the Fire Island National Seashore, neighborhood clean-ups etc.

Our name, the Smith Point Peninsula Homeowner’s Association, with emphasis on “peninsula” and “homeowners” reflects the mutual goals of our membership; like-minded individuals coming together to create positive change for our neighborhood.

If you share the optimism we feel about the potential of this beautiful waterfront community, please join us. We’d love to hear from you with questions, suggestions, ideas or dreams!
